Federal and State Tax Filing: Did you know that you can file your federal and state taxes for free and save ALL of your refund?  If your income was $60,000 or less last year, you are eligible for free electronic filing of your federal and state income taxes through The Benefit Bank. The tax expertise is built into the online service helping you to complete your return and take advantage of all the tax credits you are eligible for including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Learn more about the EITC from EITC Carolinas, another MDC initiative.

File your federal and NC taxes at a TBB-NC site with a trained tax counselor or online from the comfort of your own home using the Self-Serve option.

Do you need counselor-assisted tax preparation services but can’t find a Benefit Bank site near you?  The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program also provides free tax assistance for the elderly, persons with a disability, military, households with limited English proficiency, and all households with an income of $50,000 or less. Visit the EITC Carolinas to learn more.

Federal Tax Filing for Prior 3 years: The Benefit Bank can also help you file back taxes. This is especially important if you are eligible for, but failed to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Visit EITC Carolinas to learn more about the EITC.

Checking Your Refund Status: If you filed your federal taxes and are waiting on your refund you can check your refund’s status using the IRS Where’s My Refund? Tool. To check the status of your North Carolina refund use the Refund Inquiry Tool on the North Carolina Department of Revenue’s website.
