Food Assistance

Food & Nutrition Services (FNS): Formerly known as food stamps and called SNAP in other states, FNS is a federal food assistance program designed to end hunger and improve nutrition and health. Eligible participants receive benefits on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card which can be used to buy food at most grocery stores. All eligible applicants receive benefits within 30 days; those needing emergency food help can receive benefits within 7 days. For more information visit the FNS4NC Coalition and the NC Department of Social Services.
