(An excerpt from The Benefit Bank’s September Newsletter)

In a 1964 radio broadcast, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “I want to remind all who are listening that a democratic society cannot meet its full potential of achievement unless all of its citizens exercise their right to register and to vote.”

On November 6, voters will choose a president, members of both houses of congress, some governors and mayors, city council members, school board positions, and a host of other offices in cities and towns across America. Those elected officials will be making important decisions about the economy, waging war and bringing peace, the social safety net, who will lead our local schools, and how much property taxes will be next year. The right to vote is a constitutional right and a vital force behind representative government.

The Benefit Bank of North Carolina helps clients complete voter registration forms so they can exercise their right to vote.
